Dental implants are a fantastic way to replace missing teeth and are one of the biggest advancements in dentistry in the last half century.  A dental implant is a new tooth made of bio-compatible titanium and porcelain to look just like your natural tooth.  When you are missing teeth, chewing, speaking and the appearance of your face can be affected. When properly cared for, dental implants can last a lifetime.

Dental Implants are generally composed of three main parts: one is the titanium implant body that replaces the missing root, the second is the abutment piece that attaches to the implant and the third is the tooth-colored crown that is securely attached or cemented to the abutment component.  The implant body is placed surgically into the jawbone and then allowed to heal.  While healing, the implant and the adjacent bone undergoes a process of osseointegration, meaning that the bone actually grows around the implant and holds it very securely in place.  This osseointegration process takes several months and is what makes implants so strong.

Implants can be used to replace a single missing tooth or several missing teeth, either as a bridge or as supports to anchor dentures.  Ultimately, implants are a great way to retain or regain a natural looking smile.
